I went to town today with my mother and some family members. We went shopping for local fabrics and located where in the community individuals could find all the materials needed to make the washable sanitary pads. This is a very important task as it is key to guaranteeing the workshops are truly sustainable. We easily found everything in the markets!
I spoke to members of my family in Bolivia about my project and one of my aunts informed me about a center for homeless teen mothers. She helps volunteer there and believes that this would be a great project to introduce to the center.
After my aunt's recommendation, I organized an additional workshop at "Madre María" (Centro de Formación para Madres Adolescentes). The workshop went extremely well. The young girls were very excited and willing to learn. They even want to continue this project at the center and help other girls living on the streets of Santa Cruz. I plan to buy another sewing machine so this can be possible. I'm glad that my project is growing and positively impacting more individuals. I just wish I didn't have to meet such bright young girls under the circumstances that I did. They are selfless individuals despite all they have gone through. My time with them has definitely left me inspired to help even more girls.
